In response to industry’s demand and urgency for heavy equipment operators, PT Smelting organized Forklift Operator Training and Certification Program for its partner vocational high schools in Gresik. This initiative has become a concrete step in enhancing workforce competencies to ensure their readiness, particularly in terms of safety and operational efficiency, in industrial settings. The training took place on June 19–30, 2026 at the UPTD-BLK Disnaker Gresik facility. The series of training was opened by Muhammad Fuad as Assistant Manager of General Affairs on June 17, 2026.
Referring to National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) standards, PT Smelting ensures that the curriculum covers a range of key competencies, such as soft skills development, forklifts basic knowledge, powertrains, hydraulic systems, safety equipment and personal protective equipment, forklift operation practices, and an understanding of prevailing regulations. At the end of the program, participants undergo a final assessment verified directly by Professional Certification Institution, BNSP and Occupational Safety and Health Service Company, Ministry of Manpower (PJK3/Kemnaker). Students who meet the standards are eligible to receive a competency certification and official license/permit from the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia.
This training is an extension of the Industry Teaching Program, which has been introducing the world of industry to vocational high school students in Gresik since 2014. This year, PT Smelting is collaborating with five (5) partner schools: SMK Semen Gresik, SMK Islamic Qon, SMK Yasmu, SMK Nahdlatul Ulama’ Gresik, and SMK Negeri 1 Cerme. Through this training and certification program, participants will have greater access to career opportunities in the industrial sector.
Fuad added that this certification program is tangible proof of PT Smelting’s strong commitment to develop and empower local communities. By preparing Gresik’s younger generation with industrial skills, the company goes beyond mere corporate social responsibility to actively cultivate resilient, competent, and self-reliant local talents. “PT Smelting hopes that these empowered graduates will not only achieve successful careers but also serve as driving forces for sustainable regional economic growth,” Fuad added.
