Emergency Overview :
Gypsum is white powdered solid. It may cause eye, skin and upper respiratory tract irritation, as a result of its nature to absorb moisture. It can cause inflammation of mucous membranes and nose-bleeds.
Potential Health Effects
Swallowing this product is not expected to cause toxic effects. As gypsum absorbs moisture and clumps may form and create blockages in the stomach.
Gypsum is considered a nuisance particulate but it will absorb moisture quickly causing clumps in the nasal passages and upper respiratory tract.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES
Move patient to fresh air. Monitor for respiratory distress. If cough or difficulty breathing develops, evaluate for respiratory tract irritation, bronchitis, or pneumonitis.
If swallowed, have the conscious victim drink plenty of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious victim. Get medical attention.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Avoid contact with the spilled material. Collect material for reprocessing if possible. If reprocessing is not possible collect for disposal in a container appropriate for disposal method. Collect material using shovels and vacuums or other methods that will minimize dust exposures to workers.

Wear appropriate respirator when ventilation is inadequate. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment. Avoid dust formation. Avoid breathing vapors, mist or gas.

Do not let product enter drains.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Handle in a manner that will minimize generation of dusts. Avoid breathing dusts. Use containers during transfer of product. Compressed air should not be used for cleaning these dusts.
Storage Precaution
Keep product in a dry location and placed on waterproof floor. Keep containers closed. In accordance with preventing of pollution, any spillage should not be discharge into the environment. Symbol and emergency response equipments should be provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
Work/Hygienic Practices
Wash before eating, using the washroom or smoking. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION
Wear safety glasses with side shields with appropriate approvals for your jurisdiction to prevent contact with eyes.
Wear suitable protective clothing.
Use respirators and components tested and approved under appropriate government standards.

Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents such as fluorine, chlorine triflouride, diazomethane and oxygen diflouride may cause an exothermic reaction (heat). Several metal oxo-compounds and sulfides mixed with gypsum and aluminum can create a violent reaction.
