Acid Plant & WWTP

Process Description

ACID PLANT

1

Gas Cleaning Section

The SO2 gas from smelter is cleaned from the dust in the washing tower, ventury scrubber, gas cooler and mist precipitators.

2

Drying Tower and Main Gas Blower

The cleaned wet gas enters the drying tower in counter current flow with 96% sulfuric acid to capture the moisture. Then the dried gas delivered to converter area through main gas blower.

3

Converter

The dried SO2 gas is converted to SO3 by four beds of Vanadium pentaoxide (V2O5) catalyst which has overall SO2 conversion rate more than 99.8%.

4

Absorption Tower

The SO3 ga s out of the third catalyst bed is absorbed into sulfuric acid in the intermediate absorption tower (IAT). The SO3 gas out of the final catalyst bed is absorbed into sulfuric acid in the final absorption tower (FAT) to produce sulfuric acid.

WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

PT. Smelting utilizes 3 steps of waste water treatment to ensure the discharge water to the sea within the limit of stringent east java effluent standard. Gypsum product is delivered to the cement industry. Sludge cake formed in the sludge section which contains heavy metals is recycled back to the smelter.
