PT Smelting marked the fifth anniversary of its TBC Patient Care Program, which has been running from 2019 to 2024. The event took place at Giri Loka Ballroom, Aston Hotel Gresik, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, aiming to strengthen pentahelix collaboration in tuberculosis (TBC) mitigation efforts and develop a joint action plan involving all relevant stakeholders.

The event involved multistakeholder, including, government institutions, academia, the private sector, communities, Ex-TBC, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the media that have essential roles in prevention of TBC in Gresik Regency.

Ir. Bouman Tiroi Situmorang, Assistant Department Manager of Government & External Affairs at PT Smelting, explained that the initiative originated from a simple act of assistance.

"This program began in 2018 when we received a request for an ambulance from a social organization to help transport TBC patients. From there, we realized the need to take part directly in TBC control efforts. Over five years, from an initial target of 730 patients, 945 have successfully recovered, achieving 129 percent of the target. This remarkable result demonstrates the strength of collaboration among all stakeholders.”

The Gresik Regency Government expressed high appreciation for the program’s success. Suprapto, Assistant for Government and People’s Welfare of Gresik Regency stated: “In 2025 alone, there have been 1,444 identified TBC cases in Gresik, with a recovery rate of 80 percent. PT Smelting’s contribution is a real example of cross-sector synergy in achieving the national target of TBC elimination by 2030.”

In this event, a mini talk show was held under the theme Cross-Sector Synergy Toward TBC Elimination by 2030. The discussion featured speakers from the Gresik Health Office, PT Smelting, academia, NGOs, and the Head of Sukomulyo Village, which achieved the recognition of Zero TBC Village in 2024.

Through this forum, speakers and participants shared insights and strengthened collaborative efforts for more effective TBC prevention and treatment.

The TBC Patient Care Program has demonstrated how collaboration among government, industry, and the community can drive significant positive change for Ex-TBC in Gresik Regency and PT Smelting remains committed to continuing this program through a sustainable approach, not only focusing on curing patients but also on building a healthier social, economic, and environmental support system.
